Reparatørene kommer!
Year 2024
The Repairers Are Coming! is a participatory art project that explores the act of repair as a tool for fostering interaction and engagement in urban spaces. Developed through artistic research in collaboration with an elementary school and Oslo Metropolitan University, the project involved collecting discarded materials from the city and transforming them—primarily into chairs.
Through workshops, participants reimagined public space, reflecting on identity, sustainability, and community involvement. By searching for «treasures» in their surroundings, they engaged with the stories embedded in broken objects, questioning how repair can shape our understanding of shared environments. These interactions challenge and expand our perception of public space while also exploring how art can actively contribute to transforming and enriching these shared environments.

In this project, the interactions between participants and the «repaired objects» were a central focus. The artistic process explored how these elements influenced one another, shaping both individual and collective experiences.

«How would you look like if you were a chair?»
On the second day of workshops, each participant created their own chair-portrait, offering them a new way to see themselves and each other. This exercise provided insight into how participants perceived their identities and relationships, as well as how these perceptions affected their engagement in the repair process.

The project reflects on how the objects we work on can serve as mirrors of self-expression—surfaces where we project, observe, and question ourselves.
FINAL EXHIBITION AT OSLOMET

A selection of chairs and chair-portraits created during the workshops was showcased in the final exhibition, accompanied by brochures for visitors to take. The brochure invited visitors to engage in their own repair process while exploring the city of Oslo, offering examples and ideas on how to create their own chair.
